Where to fish in Sardinia

ago 11, 2020

Thanks to the presence of wind for most of the year, Sardinia is ideal for those who love surfcasting fishing. Let's find out together where to fish in Sardinia and, in particular, what delights the Golfo Aranci - the fishing itinerary we propose - offers to fishing enthusiasts.

Fishing itinerary in Sardinia: the beauty of Golfo Aranci

The Golfo Aranci is located about 20 kilometers from Olbia and is one of the most important ports in the north-east of Sardinia. The main fishing destination and itinerary is the White Beach, less than 5 kilometers from the port itself. This town takes its name from the color of the sand, almost dazzling. As soon as you arrive you are faced with a myriad of small crystals with brilliant shimmers. The sea is rich in shades of blue and indigo and Mediterranean shrubs thrive all around. The beach has the shape of a crescent and extends for about 260 meters, enclosed by two granite rocks to the east and west. The seabed is mixed with sand, rock banks and Posidonia meadows.

What to fish at the White Beach

Exposure to southern winds creates storm surges, which are almost never too violent. For this reason, those who practice surfcasting will appreciate this place. In addition, there is no shortage of fine fish. Here we find sea bass, white breams, sea bream, but also mullets, damsels, thrushes and conger eels. The more experienced can try their hand at cuttlefish fishing, if equipped with a throwing rod and squid. When the sea puts us in front of a storm of sirocco and libeccio, we will find ourselves in the best conditions to plant surfcasting fishing lines on the stakes.

What equipment to use for surfcasting

Surfcasting equipment should not be too heavy. You can carry rods with casting power up to 150 grams but can also handle 80 gram weights well for light baits. As for the coil, we prefer a 0.25mm with 8-10 meters of 0.40-0.60 leading shock. For the conger eel and sea bass, however, the long arm is always the winning terminal. The surfcasting equipment then varies according to the time of day we fish. During the day the fishing line can be 0.20 mm with a length of 1.5-2 meters in search of sea bream and sea bass. At night, however, we climb up to a 0.40 mm long one meter or so, ready to fish for conger eels.

The cliffs of Golfo Aranci: perfect for Bolognese and English fishing

For lovers of "float" techniques, you can head towards the cliff to the east or west. This place is perfect for those who love fishing with Bolognese fishing line for mullets and white breams. You will have to equip yourself with a 5 meter rod with a small reel, mounting a spherical float of 2-4 grams on a main line with a diameter of 0.16. As bait we choose cheese flours complemented with a few handfuls of larvae. One last tip: choose the border points between algae, sand and rock, letting the hooklink sway so that the bait is more natural.
