Bottom fishing equipment
Let us now look at the features of the ideal bottom fishing equipment.
The fishing rod for this technique has a length similar to the one used for trout area: about 2.00/2.10 meters. The tip is in pure carbon to enhance anglers’ awareness at the time the fish “taps” the bait. This is a rather important feature, as bottom fishing is practiced in deep waters, and anglers’ sensitivity is minimal even if the fish taps the bait vehemently.
As for the lures used in bottom fishing, these have sides of almost identical length. The lure must be cast so that it almost bounces off the bottom. The success of bottom fishing is determined by the interaction of two things: the liveliness of the fish and the water temperature. If the water is very cold, as can happen during the winter season, the fish will not be tempted to chase the bait and will therefore remain at the bottom, to the delight of bottom fishing anglers.
Bottom fishing baits
Baits for bottom fishing can be of various types. Very common is the super light bait with a long fluorocarbon end which, thanks to its weight, helps the bait to better sink.
Widely used baits are also those with a hexagonal shape, and a magnet applied at the back which serves to block the hook. The advantage of this feature is that the bait crawls at the bottom without the hook getting stuck, as it is held high by the magnet.
