Fishing in Corsica
ago 25, 2020One of the most beautiful places in Europe. An island rich in history, with roads and landscapes that are often inaccessible, surrounded by cliffs plunging into the sea, enchanting beaches and towns to be discovered. We are obviously talking about Corsica, which offers a breathtaking fishing itinerary, particularly suitable for those who love surf-casting.
First stop: Lozari
The first destination of our fishing holiday in Corsica is Lozari, located a few kilometers from Île Rousse. A 1.3 km long beach with north-west exposure. The beach is made of sand with rather large granules and with a very steep backwash step, and good depth. Here we find bream, sea bream, sea bream, sea bass, rays, mullet and sole, as well as other seasonal species. During the autumn period we can also fish for gallinelle. The launch must be long, especially if the sea is calmer.
Second stop: L’Ostriconi
Here we are in L’Ostriconi - located on the western edge of the désert des Agriates - which is characterized by a panorama of rare beauty that surrounds a picturesque and deserted beach facing northwest. Here we can also fish in the streams that descend from the east side of Monte Astu and the nearby Balagna, where we find several ponds and lagoons. There is never a shortage of fish: from croaker to sea bream passing through large sea bass. However, algae often make fishing not very rewarding.
Third stop: Saleccia
For the third and final stage of this fishing itinerary in Corsica, we move into the desert. It is a rather vast region of Mediterranean shrubs situated along the coast, and characterized by some low mountains covered with garrigue, vegetation and shrubs. The seabed is all sand and guarantees excellent chances of success. The sea, especially when rough, is overrun by white breams of all kinds and sizes, murmurs, sea bream and sea bass.
Fishing equipment in Corsica
For excellent fishing it is better to carry a fishing line with a diameter between 0.18 and 0.20 mm with an adequate shock leader, useful for long casting. We then recommend the use of a second thread, with a diameter of 0.22 / 0.25, which is essential for ordinary fishing, and a third with a diameter of 0.35 / 0.40 for fishing under the shore, with live fish and suitable for fishing in rough seas where the presence of the shock leader can create problems. Better to bring a pair of powerful bows (casting 200/250 grams with relative mules) and a second pair of light bows with casting around 120 grams. Then, we need to add the hooks, fluorocarbon fishing lines (indispensable for beams and rigs), leads, tripods or pegs and a small gaff. Finally, as regards the baits, rely on fresh sardines which are the most used for fishing in Corsica in any sea condition. Worms such as bibi, americano, Rimini worm and cordella are also essential.
