Fishing itineraries in Tuscany
lug 1, 2020Here are some suggestions for choosing the most attractive fishing itineraries in the Tuscany region, if you happen to be nearby the Arno river.
The competition field of Castelfranco di sotto along the River Arno
The first itinerary that we are going to suggest today is in Castelfranco di Sotto. Here, the river has a width between 60 and 70 meters and an uneven depth. The river bed is hard and compact, and there is no underwater vegetation; but, on the other hand, there are many obstructions on the river bed. So, which fish can be found? As average temperatures are now higher, the predominant variety is the American catfish, even large ones. The other species that can be found are crucian, sea bream, pointed catfish, carp, chub, catfish and bleak. The recommended fishing lines ranges from 0.18 mm to 0.26 mm. Another tip: it is important not to use fishing pots with too fine mesh. As regards baits, we recommend cagnotti, worms of various sizes, prawns and corn.
The Fornacette competition field along the Arno River
This fishing itinerary is situated in Fornacette. Once you enter the village, turn right and, after crossing the bridge over the canal, go straight ahead for a couple of kilometers. Just before the bridge over the Arno, on the left, there is a dirt road crossing the fields that will lead you to the final destination. The river depth is much more irregular, in that it can reach two meters not far from the shore, and drops to just 70 centimeters in the initialsections of the competition field. In this case too, it is recommended to use fishing lines ranging between 0.18 mm and 0.26 mm. Due to strong currents, you need to mount floats ranging between 2 to 30 grams, or more. Here, you can catch differentvarieties, particularly American catfish and mullets.
The Arno competition field in Laterina
Once you have passed Terranuova Bracciolini, turn right and follow the direction for Laterina. The entrance to the Arno competition field in Laterina is situated immediately after a bridge: thereafter, you have to follow the dirt road for a few kilometers. Here, the river is between 45 and 55 meters wide and the river bed is sandy and muddy. Unlike the other competition fields, there is underwater vegetation made up of algae and submerged tree branches, which could make it tricky to recover your catch. The depth varies between one and a half meters and three and a half meters, and the current is strong in winter and slow in summer. Here you can find different varieties, including carpsbigger than three kilograms in weight, crucians of about 800 grams, chubs, torpedos, catfishes and bleak and roach in the underbelly. Thanks to the fact that the field is controlled by the locks, you can indulge yourself with different types of fishing technique.
